Friday 25th April Saw Myself run a photo charter with Visiting loco 6880 Betton Grange on my home line. The day was a fantastic one with every location we visited, the sun made an appearance despite the forecast saying the sun was going to give up late morning. Special thanks to photographers who supported the day, it was great to see you all and as always a pleasuring hosting a day out for you. A massive thank you to everyone at the SVR for making this day successful. This includes everyone on the operations side on the day from footplate crew, guard, signalmen, cafe and steward. Of course not forgetting all the people behind the scenes who made this day possible. Also a big thank you to the 6880 Betton Grange Group for the use of their loco, it’s a fantastic one and we certainly enjoyed it throughout the day. Here are my favourites from the day with Wribbenhall Viaduct (3rd clip) and lastly Severn Lodge being my highlights from a cracking day.
Last weekend over Easter, the Severn Valley Railway hosted its Spring Steam Gala. This years was a bit different with the line still split at Mor Brook Bridge the line could only go as far as Hampton Loade from Kidderminster. The visiting locos were fantastic, returning after its visit back in autumn was Jubilee 45699 Bahamas and returning to the line was 45627 Sierra Leone (Galatea). This loco spent many years at Kidderminster in pieces as was its first visit back as an operational loco. The third and final visitor was the first time visit of 6880 Betton Grange. The home fleet starred Manors 7812 Erlestoke Manor making its final appearance before going on an extended loan to the West Somerset and 7802 Bradley Manor. This loco making its first appearances since overhaul. The highlights were the double heading of the pair from Hampton Loade to Kidderminster, this a rare move on the line. The pair are captured leaving Hampton Loade and Bewdley and also both Jubilees passing at Bewdley. The sight of 2 BR Green jubilees passing each other might not have been seen since steam days? But having 45627 back at the Valley was the main highlight for me, I remember seeing this loco many times in pieces at Kidderminster and seeing it operational again on the Valley was somehting I didn't think I'd see. Plus my favourite shot of the gala, was the finale of this video of the Jubilee in golden hour on the Monday leaving Bewdley. A cracking gala from the Valley though and an event that was enjoyable and was great to see it well supported. Well done to everyone who organised it and the volunteers to produced a great day over the 4 day event 👏🏻
